Hi,
Jail break causes some alterations in the iPhone firmware, if you don't want such changes to happen while unlocking, you can use other methods like Remote unlocking. The unlock is permanent and you can get this remote unlocking service from online sites. Onlinegsmunlock.com is where i unlocked my iPhone 4, they offered good unlocking service!!!
